SJI International Elementary School successfully introduced its English-Chinese Bilingual Programme in 2024, representing an innovative approach to language and cultural education. Open to students from Prep 1 to Grades 2, this pioneering curriculum delivers instruction in both English and Chinese, establishing the groundwork for bilingualism.

Parents can choose between two distinct pathways – the Mainstream and Bilingual programmes – enabling tailored education aligned with their child's preferences.

While the Mainstream Programme prioritises English supplemented with Mandarin lessons, the Bilingual Programme delves deeper into both languages through strategically dividing the language of instruction by subject area and time. The alternating language instruction ensures a balanced commitment to both English and Chinese language development.

The Bilingual Programme goes beyond developing bilingual literacy in children, but cultural awareness, and cognitive skills as well. Immersive cultural experiences in history, etiquette, philosophy and literature are created to improve language proficiency and cross-cultural communication skills.
