Rugby School Japan, which opened in September 2023 with 140 students, has quickly established itself as a beacon of academic excellence. In its inaugural year, the school’s students have achieved remarkable success in the highly regarded UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) competitions.
Outstanding Performance in Senior Maths Challenge
In October 2023, the founding Year 12 A Level students participated in the UK Senior Mathematical Challenge (for Year 13 and below). We are thrilled to announce that one of our Year 12 cohort (10 students) secured a prestigious Gold Certificate, earning a Principal’s Commendation for this superb achievement. Additionally, three students were awarded Silver Certificates, underscoring the high calibre of our students' mathematical abilities.
Remarkable Results in Intermediate Maths Challenge
In January 2024, pupils from Years 7 to 11 took part in the UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge. This 60-minute, 25 multiple-choice question competition is designed to stretch their problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning. Despite the challenge primarily targeting GCSE students, our younger pupils participated with great enthusiasm and success.
Rugby School Japan is proud to report an exceptional performance, with more than half of the participants receiving awards. Our students earned 9 Gold, 13 Silver, and 14 Bronze Certificates, demonstrating their intellectual dexterity and dedication.
Impressive Achievements in Junior Maths Challenge
Our Year 7 and 8 students continued the trend of excellence in the UKMT Junior Maths Challenge. This competition, which encourages mathematical reasoning and precision, saw our students excel once again.
We are delighted to announce that 11 students achieved Gold Certificates, 9 received Silver, and 8 earned Bronze Certificates. Special commendations go to TK, who was awarded the Best in Year certificate with a score of 106/135, and EC, who received the Best in School certificate with an impressive 123/135.
Founding Principal, Mr Tony Darby commented, “These remarkable achievements reflect the dedication of our students and the exceptional support from our teaching staff. It’s a proud moment for Rugby School Japan and a promising indicator of the bright academic future ahead for our students.”
