Abode2 explores some perfect spaces to indulge your love of reading this World Book Day

Reading for pleasure has myriad benefits, no matter what age you are. For children, it can enhance their cognitive development and 16-year-olds who read books for pleasure are more likely to go on to secure managerial or professional jobs in later life.

But reading does much more than improve career prospects, research has also shown that reading can stop people from feeling lonely, can make people more likely to trust others and can provide people with a stronger sense of belonging to society. Reading can also increase our understanding of the self, our empathy and our ability to understand our own and others’ identities.

Powerful stuff – and clearly something to celebrate. As such, for World Book Day, we took some of our favourite reads to some fabulous reading spots courtesy of Quintain Living’s homes in Wembley Park, London.

The Robinson, Quintain Living at Wembley Park

First up, the cosy reading nooks in the residents’ lounge at The Robinson. With huge windows flooding the space with light (and providing views of Wembley Stadium and out across London), the lounge has a vast bank of seats backed by cushioned portholes set into the wall – perfect for readers looking to curl up and lose themselves in a book for hours on end.

Outdoors at The Robinson, there’s nowhere better to settle down to read than the John Lennon-inspired peace garden. With a circular seating area surrounded by dense foliage, the garden provides the ideal spot for relaxing with a book.

Canada Gardens, Quintain Living at Wembley Park

Over at Canada Gardens, meanwhile, residents have a choice of spaces in which to enjoy a good book. In the library overlooking the super-lobby, there are cosy chairs to sink into, while both the rooftop lounge and the inviting clubhouse have plenty of spots to settle in.

Outside, the acre of greenspace with its lovely lawned area is like an open invitation to residents sporting picnic blankets and books. With sunshine on the horizon after the storms of the last week, where better to indulge a lifelong love of reading?
