Tolquhon Gallery is one of the leading independent galleries in Scotland, with a singular aim of celebrating and promoting contemporary Scottish art worldwide.
Presenting varied exhibition programmes since the inception of the company, there is a breadth of knowledge from practicing artists - recent graduates to acknowledged masters.
Scottish artists are known for their strong colour and lively brushwork but many are quieter and more nuanced. There is room for all.
John Lowrie Morrison, known as Jolomo, is one of the best known Scottish artists. He interprets the Scottish landscape with unique verve and vigour. Ian Mastin is very different. He paints technically remarkable, exquisite still life with a timeless quality. These are just two of the more than one hundred artists the gallery represents.
The Philosophy: 'We have eclectic tastes but we always admire artists with integrity whose work is of the highest quality. They may present a simple charcoal study created in a short studio session or an intricate composition in oils produced over many months. Artists work in different styles and genres but each work we exhibit is of value. Each artist uses their individual skill and experience. There may be as much ability and technique in a purely abstract work as in a photo realist piece. What matters is the artist’s voice and what they express.’
Tolquhon Gallery is set in rural Aberdeenshire, in a Victorian farmhouse, just a few hundred yards from historic Tolquhon Castle. Being on a domestic scale rather than a white cube, the gallery allows collectors to perfectly visualise how an artwork might look in their own home. And as well as the indoor space, the gallery is unique in its outdoor exhibition space as it has a large garden where there are regular displays of sculpture.
They are are always readily open to projects of any scale.
