Sophia Rose is a self-taught Canadian-born artist that developed a passion for art from a very young age. Alongside her love of art, grew a strong interest in history, languages and both forms of horsepower. These interests led to achievements that now include a Bachelor of Arts in History, fluency in multiple languages, and the skills of an accomplished equestrian.
Several of Sophia’s paintings have recently been exhibited internationally, in Barcelona and Paris. Her paintings have also been featured on the pages of The English Home, House & Garden, the London Life Magazines, Tatler and Vanity Fair UK. Each painting is thoughtfully composed, and comes to life on stretched canvas, using acrylic paints. All paintings are one-off creations with no prints or reproductions. A number of bespoke commissioned artworks can be found in private collections throughout Canada, Europe, and the United States.
She is best known for her unique and vibrant automotive paintings that capture and honour the individual characteristics and personalities of each automobile, by utilising her own “strata methodology”. No different than someone sitting for a portrait, Sophia chooses to focus on the “facial features” of the cars, their grills and headlights. She believes that this is where their personality lies. The paintings are meant to be fun and inviting- one does not need to be a car person in order to enjoy them or to feel a connection.
In contrast to the realistic style of the automotive paintings, her historical paintings take on a different appearance, one that is influenced by the age of the subject matter considered in each piece. Where one may be able to discern the location or the setting of the subject matter, the fine details remain shrouded, leaving one with one’s own imagination to create their own certainty.
