An artist based in South London, Nicky is inspired by the natural beauty of the world and in particular the many creatures that live in it. She started Nix Rowan with a duckling and giraffe, soon to be followed by a parade of other animals.
A self-taught painter after a long career in fashion design, Nicky uses a mix of watercolour pens and paint on Hahnemühle watercolour paper, which create a distinct look and finish to every stroke. Initially she explored painting faces and flowers in oils and acrylic before discovering her passion for painting animals, particularly enjoying the lightness of watercolours.
Each print is created with Giclée pigment inks on archival quality fine art paper, which recreates all the beautiful details of the original paintings. Stunning as an individual piece of art, each animal can also be used to create personalised prints – which make fantastic gifts. A selection are also combined into a striking A to Z print, perfect for a child’s bedroom wall.
Alongside the watercolour prints Nicky also takes pet portrait commissions with recent pieces ranging from ponies to puppies to pot bellied pigs. Working in either pencil or watercolour, each feature of the beloved pet is lovingly captured and forever immortalised on paper.
Having grown up in Northern Ireland, Nicky has lived and worked in London for over 20 years. She combines freelance designing with Nix Rowan, with the hope that it will continue to grow even bigger and better.
