In 2013, Icelandic artist Óskar Ericsson decided to create a gin that was the perfect fishing companion to take along on fishing trips in the Icelandic wilderness. Inspired by the scents of herbs that grow along the banks of rivers, the gin became an ode to the river and was named after the "Himbrimi", a bird that all Icelandic fishermen are familiar with. The intention was that the drink would be an experience in itself, something that would capture the essence of Icelandic nature in a bottle. In 2016, the first bottles of Himbrimi were produced and distributed in Iceland.
In January 2019, Himbrimi Old Tom Gin was awarded "World‘s Best Compound Gin" at the World Gin Awards 2019 in London, UK.
In February 2019, Himbrimi Winterbird was awarded with a bronze medal at the prestigeous International Spirit Challenge.
In April 2018, Himbrimi Gin was awarded with a silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirit Competition 2018.
