Glen Farrelly is a sculptor with a unique perspective, seeing beauty in the broken and abandoned, creating regeneration in the most visually exciting and provocative works.
Glen trained at the renowned Camberwell College of Arts in London, studying for a fine arts degree in ceramics. He then went on to teach Art at one of the top independent schools in London where he was Head of Art. After 20 years of teaching he moved to California, where he was exposed to devastating wildfires that almost destroyed his home. Later, when the fires had been declared safe, he returned to his home and walked the fire ravaged sites collecting remnants of scorched and discarded wood, changing artistic direction and materials Glen began carving and sculpting. Glen tries to show regrowth, new life and hope in his sculptures despite it’s dire beginnings. His work has been displayed in exhibitions throughout California, Kuwait, Japan and he is currently showing his work in London. Glen has now moved back to the UK, and works from his studio in North Wales, where he continues to use materials that are destined to end up in landfill from wood to Welsh Slate, creating beauty from the unwanted.
Glen has always been an ambassador for environmental issues and hopes his artwork helps to raise further awareness of the effects of climate change. All of Glen’s work is 100% recycled and reclaimed.
All Glen Farrelly’s sculptures are produced as unique pieces, they are all signed and dated. Alongside the ready to buy pieces, Glen also takes bespoke commissions. Glen is an experienced and engaging public speaker and is available to talk to groups about his experiences escaping the wildfires and how he found inspiration in destruction and the artist's role in climate change awareness. If you want to discuss a commission or learn more about how the sculptures are created, you can contact him via his website.
