Chesneys – Igniting Your Senses

Chesneys is one of the UK’s leading suppliers of luxury fireplaces, stoves, architectural design and outdoor living products.

Traditionally Chesneys use high quality photography for their website product and advertising imagery. After seeing the quality that White Crow Studios were able to offer, Chesneys were enthusiastic about using CGI as an alternative to traditional photography.

Managing Director, Paul Chesney approached White Crow Studios when Chesneys had a very specific requirement for an advertising image that would have been difficult to reproduce in traditional photography. Paul wanted to illustrate both one of Chesneys indoor and outdoor products within the same image.

White Crow Studios enjoy working with high quality products, where attention to detail is key. The Chesneys advert CGI needed to be photo realistic enough to sit alongside photography convincingly. We set about recreating the fireplaces using the latest 3D modelling techniques. The materials were very carefully recreated to represent the real world product accurately.

Initial drafts images were submitted to Chesneys without materials in what we call the “white box” stage. This gives the client an opportunity to review the camera angle and composition of the image. This proved especially useful in this case where we needed to show the two products in situ, within the same view.

Initially the image was intended to be a daylight image. It soon became apparent that night time lighting would suit this image better and draw attention to the fireplace products. One of the great advantages of CGI over photography is the ability to make creative decisions throughout the process. A traditional photo shoot would have been fixed and any changes would require costly reshoots.

White Crow have gone on to provide further CGI illustrations for Chesneys marketing department. With CGI, we are able to create product imagery even before the real world equivalent has been manufactured. Once modelled, we are also able to show the same product in a variety of different materials.
